1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator
351 Big Block PROJECT
Up for auction is an original 1970 “M” Code 351 Mercury Cougar Eliminator body.
When we first purchased this car, we didn’t know it was an Eliminator. Shame on us. We bought it mostly for its parts, and we removed the original 4 bbl Cleveland engine and FMX transmission, as well as the 9” rear end, power steering, and front disk brakes.
We weren’t aware until just recently that the car was an original Competition Gold Cougar Eliminator, (Ford paint #3659-A).
Our ignorance is your opportunity.
Obviously, this Cougar can be restored into an awesome Classic.
Please take a look at how stunning a Competition Gold Eliminator will be when fully restored.
The good news is that, although the engine does not come with the car, we still have the original numbers matching 351 4 bbl engine and FMX transmission which is available separately for $1500, plus all the other pieces and parts that our needed.
This Cougar would be worth at least $25,000 to $30,000 when fully restored. ..
This Cougar will need rust / body repair in the normal areas, floor pans, and doors, but the frame is straight and the quarters are in decent condition. Overall not that much is needed to get this Cougar body ready to paint.
The interior should be brought back to excellence. The good news is that you can see what is needed. You aren’t accepting someone else’s mistakes or bad repairs. The instrument panel is in good condition, just dirty, but you will want a new dash pad. The seats will need recovering, but new covers are available to make the job much less costly. The door panels are missing, but you probably want new ones anyway.
Engine bay is in great condition, and just needs to be cleaned and painted.
Windshield is cracked but the door glass and the 1/4 side glass are all there
The car is definitely a project, but it is a real Eliminator, and we can help where you need our help. We can sell you any of the items you may need, like the original engine and transmission (add $2,000), 9” rear end (add $1,000), front disk brakes (add $800), and power steering (add $600). In addition, we are a Scott Drake dealer, and we can sell you new seat covers, new carpet Etc.
Please ask any questions, we know someone will receive a great project and ultimately a great Classic Big Block Cougar Eliminator.
The Cougar is currently off the DMV System in California. We will supply you with the documents you will need to get the car licensed in your state.
Please bid with confidence.
